What is enlightenment? The Ultimate purpose of life
Just like other 8.4 million species of creature on earth, we humans are also a kind of life. We are a life with higher level of consciousness, ability to think and retain information. We have the ability to process the most complex data in a very intricate manner.

You are a life full of consciousness, intelligence, emotions and memory.
You are a Soul. And this human birth is an opportunity to identify the soul which cannot be done by any other species of life. You, as an individual living creature on this planet, are a combination of
-
The soul (non physical) component and
-
The body (the physical component).
If there is life or soul missing in your body then you will not be counted as a person but merely a dead body. Similarly, if a soul is not associated with a body then it doesn’t remain an individual soul but becomes part of the Supersoul.

Imagine your soul as the air inside a soap bubble and the surface of the bubble as your body. If the bubble bursts out, the air inside it will merge with the outside air all around the universe. The air inside the bubble is as much a part of the air that is outside.
Similarly, your soul is part of that Supersoul. That air inside the bubble or the life inside the body is Soul.

You are a soul, experiencing the beauty of life through your body.

The problem arises when a soul forgets its true identity and identifies itself with the body. The body and senses make the soul behave as an individual that leads to development of ego (Ahankara).

Ego doesn’t mean a feeling of pride and superiority but identifying yourself as something. You may identify yourself as a child, lover, employee, mother, leader or whatever. The moment you identify yourself as something you start working to fulfill the requirements of that identity.

For example if you are a student you thrive to get good marks and then get good job. If you are an employee you look for promotions and higher salary. If you are sick, you want to get good health. If you are single, your focus is to get a life partner, marriage, kids and then there is a whole new story following.

In short there is always a problem that you want to solve and something that you want to achieve. You are always in a state that “if this happens, I will be happy”

-
If I get a good job, I will be happy
-
If I get a good wife, I will be happy
-
If he loves me as much as I love him, I will be happy
-
If my salary is increased, I can buy this, buy that, save more for future, I will be happy
-
If my disease is cured, I will be happy
-
If I lose some weight, I will be happy
-
If this happens or that happens, I will be happy.
-

This type of suffering arises from future expectations. Here you always try to reach to a point where you think you would be happy.
The other kind of suffering is from past experience. You suffer because of the things that didn’t go the way you thought it should have gone. Your lose in business, unhealthy work place environment , break up, past accidents or trauma, and anything that you wish shouldn’t have happened are also cause of sufferings.
All of the sufferings in this lifetime (past or future) can be categorized into these 5 categories:
-
Physical
-
Financial
-
Relationship
-
Family
-
Identity issues (respect, fame, popularity, acceptance etc).
(Mention in comments if your are suffering from anything apart from these categories)
Time heals everything and everyone. I’d like you to imagine about the biggest problem that you had 5 or 10 years ago. You probably can’t even remember that. That divorce you had or that lose in business 5 years ago doesn’t matter now.
You may have been living comfortably at that time but now you are rich in life experience. Your ‘that’ problem is solved as your life is already going on and you have a new set of problems to solve.
Similarly the never ending streak of problems (life situations) will always come in your life and you have to go on.
The situations that will come your way are beyond your control. But how you respond to them is always your choice.

Fears and insecurities are unconsciously created by you. If you do not create them, they do not exist.
-Sadhguru

If you pay a little attention, you will notice all your problems exist either in body or in the mind. But you are neither the body nor the mind. You are a soul, a consciousness. And a soul is ever blissful, ever happy.

Once you realize yourself as a soul and not an individual human being you will mark end of all suffering, all worries and all problems. Self-realization means realizing that soul as your true identity and body as a medium to experience life.

It is a key to the door of immense joy, happiness and fulfillment. When you realize either mind or body is suffering, your soul will be at peace. You will try not to try to control the unexpected situation but enjoy that experience.

After all the more you have lived, the more you have experienced.

Though there are many ways, the easiest way to self realization is Yoga. Yoga doesn’t mean stretching and twisting your body. Yoga means ‘Union’. There are various components of Yoga and meditation is one of them.

Through meditation you can peek inside yourself. You are able to hear your subconscious mind. During meditation, you focus your concentration on the life force. And when the mind is calm and the body still, you see yourself at the point between the eyebrows also known as Kuthastha.
And when you see yourself, the soul, you are enlightened.

Enlightenment is a state of being fully aware of body senses, the situations around and a state of experiencing all the emotions in the world without getting attached to it.

You will break the barrier of your body as a boundary and identify yourself as a true consciousness. A consciousness which is present everywhere and in every particle. You (the soul and not the body) will merge with the eternal soul.

This defines the purpose of life and existence of life on earth: “To see and experience the beautiful and amazing creation of God and merge with him.”
