The quality of our life is determined by the quality of our thoughts. And the quality of our thoughts depends on the clarity of knowledge we have about the world and our life.
A frog in a well lives its entire life thinking it’s the whole world and dies there. Similarly, with limited knowledge, many people think they are living the right way. They believe they cannot escape their sufferings, as ups and downs are inevitable phases of life.
People go through many problems one after another and die without ever touching the essence of life. And they believe it is normal because everybody lives like that, everybody has their own problem to solve.
Yes, we can agree we all have our own problems to solve, but it is not necessary to waste the entire life in solving all of them. Our primary purpose is to live; live a fulfilled life. For this, we need to have the correct mindset about the life we are living.
Since birth, we are given many lessons from our parents, teachers, friends, colleagues and our life experiences itself. These lessons subconsciously develop a certain kind of mindset.
While this mindset can help a lot of people to succeed in their life, many fall in its trap living unhappy and complaining life.
This is not the way to live life. We are raised with a certain kind of belief and thoughts. By changing our perspective towards the world we can change our entire life.
Here are 9 mindset changes that can help you change your entire life for good.
1. Why does this happen to me vs. what is it trying to teach me?
When you are baffled by the situations life throws on you and when you are totally confused about what the heck is happening in life, then it’s time to sit quietly and observe. In those moments you have 2 options;
Why does this happen to me?
What is it trying to teach me?
When you understand that the unwanted life situations are nothing but our destiny or Prarabdha then you will accept every life situation gracefully as it is. Instead of complaining about them, focus on where you want to take your life further.
Your current situation is because of the decisions taken in the past and our present decisions will decide situations in the future. You can be either happy with it or not. But keep in mind, none of them is your final destination.
Learn from the current situations, learn from the mistakes, and take decisions that you think are best for you. No decision is right or wrong; they will simply lead you to the next life event and so on.
So stop asking ‘why does this happens to me?’ and say ‘what can I do about it?’
2. We existed forever vs. we are evolving
We have never lived in a world which is so sophisticated and so engineered to our needs.
We are living in the best time human history has ever witnessed. But this is not how life was 500, 1000, 10000 or 50,000 years ago.
The world has become highly dynamic and changing at every moment. The basic thing, the internet today, was magic merely 100 years ago. And what seems impossible today might be another thing of regular usage in the future.
In this ever-changing world, the only and most important thing that is present since the creation of the world is Life, which is the essence of creation. We are just another life like other species existing on this planet.
Therefore we need to change our mindset. We are not here to achieve anything. Stop the race for gaining materialistic pleasures. Let your neighbor buy the bigger car, you don’t necessarily need that. Let your ex go away from life, their Karma will take care of them.
Experience life; evolve with other lives around you. Just look at your dog and share happiness together.
3. Entertainment vs. Experience
All through our life, we have to do various kinds of activities. Some work has to be done, whether we like it or not so that we can pay our bills. Many works we do are out of our free will which we enjoy doing.
Out of all those, some activities help to enhance the experience of life. They make our body and soul feel alive. While some activities make us equally dull and boring. You need to choose the right activities beneficial for your body and soul and not just to please your senses.
Replace Netflix binge-watching series and movies with trekking and gardening. Spend time in nature observing other life, watch their behavior. Exercise, meditate, paint, build, dance, sing and do all things that make you feel alive.
Stop scrolling through a never-ending useless social media newsfeed. Stop treating your life as a commodity of other’s business. Make yourself a consumer and not a product.
4. I can’t do it vs. I’m the controller of my life
Within a normal life living in the comfort zone, sooner or later, you get everything to spend time in leisure. You get a secured life, financial stability, acceptance in society, and a steady future. But still, you are not happy. Did you ever wonder why?
It is because deep within, your soul knows you are not born for that. Your soul wants to experience life; it demands happiness from within. And while trying to maintain your comfort zone, you keep yourself engaged in materialistic activities designed for human robots; you never hear your inner voice.
The soul wants to come out of the cage and live and experience life as it is. I have met a lot of people who just don’t want to leave their comfort zone even though they will be suffocating in it. So what stops you from living a fulfilled life? It is nothing but self-doubt, fear, limiting beliefs and discomfort.
It is, of course, painful to climb the mountain as compared to lying in bed inside the cozy blanket and watching your favorite series. But the pain of climbing a mountain is much more worth than the pain of a dying soul.
Please note: This post in no way advises you to quit your job and go for mountain explorations. But hear the inner voice, take chances and make your soul awake. Start by taking the small steps. Bunk few office days and go for that scuba diving you always wanted to go for.
At the death bed, you will not remember the day you got promoted, but you will surely regret the things you didn’t do.
5. Pleasing a world outside vs. Pleasing the Universe within
You know very well it is not worth spending your precious time and money pleasing to others. In fact just to back this point let me tell you 60% of the people we meet in our life are just toxic. So is it worth putting your time, effort and energy in pleasing such people who never really matter?
Also do you know you are the Universe encased in a body? You didn’t just come out when sperm met with an egg. You manifested yourself through that process.
So it is far way better to please the Universe within than a shitty world outside. When you please yourself, you understand people and world better (it is a gradual spiritual process where you develop compassion and love for every life and identify them as a part of same Universe) and therefore you can please them (their soul) too; in the true sense and not just to show off.
Better invest in yourself. Clean and decorate your backyard, paint your garage and do everything that pleases you. Let your happiness be independent of others and you will never regret efforts put into that.
6. Negative thoughts vs. Positive thoughts – Manifesting Dreams
What you think you become. Whether you believe it or not, it’s true. We are not in the Universe but we are Universe in ourselves covered by the ignorance of our body identity.
What we send to the universe, the universe manifests it back to us. Even if you focus on ‘not thinking about negative thoughts’ you are doing a work of ‘not thinking’.
So what you need to do is think and think positively. Think about what you want to manifest in your life. Spend your thought energy on the good things you want to happen in your life. Try to imagine your ideal life all the time and it will surely happen.

7. Acknowledge the pace of life vs. Competing and comparing.
Did you ever compare your life with Bill Gate’s daughter? I know it’s just a random example but did you? Why not? You always compete with your batch-mate, your relatives and your colleagues. It’s just your mindset to excel from them.
Life is not a race (even if it was and you win, who is gonna care). Everything is happening as it should.
Everything is happening as per the universe’s wish. The situation that comes in everyone’s life is based on karma and it is equally balanced. Neither God nor the Universe is partial to you and to your friend.
Don’t ever compete with anyone and compare yourself with others. You have no idea what they are going through. Similarly, nobody can understand what your life problems are.
Everyone is different and every life is different.
So enjoy the life as it is, embrace and acknowledge the life situations you have got without trying to excel to anybody. You have your own life to live.
8. Prioritize Internal Beauty vs. External Beauty
If you want to look beautiful and sexy, the only people you attract will be the ones who appreciate how you look and how pleasing you are to their optical nerves. What do you think their intention would be if they are behaving nicely with you?
And also if you keep your heart and soul clean, what kind of people will you attract? You will attract the people who will respect you as a person, they will appreciate your thoughts and views and they will like you as a character and not a sex object.
It may happen that you may not attract the people you want but surely you will get the ones you deserve. Being true to our self means attractive people who are truthful.
It does not mean one stop dressing and looking good. Our clothes tell who we are but you need to rank internal beauty first.
Conclusion
Don’t try to fix every situation that comes in your life. Fix yourself in such a way that whatever situation comes, you are happy. – Sadhguru
Life is for sure full of ups and downs. It is a cycle of happiness and sadness. If you are seeking materialistic and sense pleasures then the happiness will always be temporary. Once you achieve your goal, you will again search for the same or other such things of temporary joy.
Permanent happiness means reaching a state of the blissfulness of the soul. Unlike materialistic happiness, you don’t have to search this exterior to yourself. You just need to change your mindset and look for that happiness within.
With regular practice, you can activate the source of happiness inside you. Once it is activated there will be nothing that can trouble you in your life. Then the primary purpose becomes to experience life instead of chasing materialistic pleasures.
If you are ready to change your mindset and practice the teaching, do let me know in the comments section below. There is a whole science behind how to go about that and I will be sharing the same in my next post. Till then enjoy it.
Cheers!!!
