7 Things that will Make you Regret in your Deathbed

Updated: May 23, 2020

Did you ever wonder your life could have been completely different if you haven’t met just a single person?

Similar is the case with your decisions. Your single decision, big or small, can totally alter your life.

Whether to drink more water daily or deciding to settle in a different country leaving your loved ones behind, you make numerous decisions all through your life. If the results come out as per your expectations, you consider it to be a good one but if the results didn’t turn out well, it, of course, becomes a bad decision (but a life lesson).

You may have never paid attention to it but there are decisions which, though provide temporary happiness, can be a great cause of regret in later stages. And some situations which might not seem favorable now can turn out to be the biggest blessings in the future.

While you are busy working to pay your EMIs and involving yourself in unnecessary entertainment, life is already happening. If you miss the essence of life you might regret it for sure in your death bed.

Here is a list of 10 things that can make you regret in your life at later stages.

1. Overthinking

There come situations in life where you need to make a very careful decision.

If you get two job offers, one which requires working on the system sitting in the office and other where you are required to work in the field, which one would you choose?

Whichever job you choose will define the course of the rest of your life. But that’s life; you don’t know what may happen in the future. You need to live in the moment.

So you can choose whatever you feel good at first. There is no need for thinking too much about it.

Be it any situation, you can’t decide your whole life based on just on a single decision. Whatever decision you make, you will encounter a situation that will require further decision and this will go on.

So stop overthinking and focus on living. It’s about the  journey and not the destination. And this brings the second point in our list.

2. Expecting happiness at the destination instead of enjoying the journey.

This is one thing you will definitely regret in life.

The real purpose is to enjoy everything. You have no control over what’s happening around. If you are heading for your most awaited road trip and then stuck in the middle of the journey because the road ahead is closed due to bad weather, what would you do?

The only thing that you can do is enjoy the journey and not expecting happiness at the destination. In fact, the best thing about a road trip is to enjoy the road, enjoy the journey and not the final point.

Life is that journey. You may or may not reach a certain point in your life where you are expecting happiness. But life is happening. And the real meaning of life is to enjoy as it comes, every single moment.

3. Not taking care of health

Do you know if you breathe slowly and in a calm way you can reduce your stress to a much lower extent? In this busy lifestyle, we just forget to breathe properly, forget about exercise and yoga.

If the soul is God then our body is the temple where this God resides. So it is our primary duty to keep this temple clean and pure.

When we don’t give time for having proper natural food best for our body, we end up eating unhealthy junk foods and not to mention other various substances to fill our appetite all through the day.

These are the primary reason resulting in a faster decay of our body cells and deterioration of their rejuvenating power. To make up the loss we end up with heavy medications over time. And that deteriorates our body even more.

If you find your body suffering after the 40s or 50s you will surely regret not taking care of your health. Don’t give yourself a chance to regret in life later. Make a simple habit of eating natural and properly cooked food.

Exercise and drink plenty of water. Small changes can avoid big regrets.

4. Not giving importance to life

The only reason you are born is to live. Yes, life itself is the most important thing you have and experiencing life is the only thing you should care for.

Of course, it is important to take care of your family, the job you do and all other worldly activities, but how would you enjoy it when you don’t know how important life is?

I don’t know what you will be remembering in your death bed, but if you did not live the life, you will surely regret it. When you will be dying you will realize life was the only thing that you had and with it, everything that you have accumulated will be gone.

So cheer up. Be grateful for everything you have. Don’t get bothered about the results of your work, if it’s a success then great, if not then even better. At least live life joyfully.

Remember life is just a play, make it interesting.

5. Not caring of other people as much we could have

We often realize how important people are only when they are gone. And if you truly loved them, you will always have a void in your heart with their absence.

When we will be helpless and about to live this world, trust me, that void will be extremely painful. You will definitely not want that.

So instead of regretting that later in life, it’s always better to love and care for people from the core of our hearts. The people who have to leave will leave no matter what, but we must love and care for those people from our hearts so that we don’t regret saying, ‘Wish I could have loved them more.’

6. The thing that you always wanted to do but couldn’t

We want to do many things in our life. But there are a few things that we know we have wanted since childhood.

I want to build my own car. I may have no technical education, no finances, no support but I can learn what it requires to build a car and over the years I can definitely build it.

You may want to spend a night in a tree-house. Build one, no hurries. You have a wish in your heart and you know, that one thing can surely make you happy. It will give you a sense of fulfillment in life. It is not difficult to figure out what that thing is, find it and do it.

It doesn’t matter if you are successful in doing that or not but not even trying can make you regret it. Nothing is impossible if you want you can definitely do what you have always wanted.

7. Not giving time to self

This should have been probably on top of this list, isn’t it? What’s the meaning of living a life pleasing to others?

Your life belongs to you and only you are responsible for what happens to your life.

It’s up to you if you make it or break it. It’s great to care for others and be available for service to mankind. But you have to find time for yourself amidst the busy schedule you have.

You need to find time to realize your soul, you need to find time to heal yourself from everything you have gone through.

Give yourself some quality time. Once you start glowing you can reflect the same glow on others too.

Conclusion

So these were the 7 most important things that one can surely regret in life if not heeded.

There are many other things that one should focus on doing in their life to not regret at later stages. Mention what you have in your mind in the comments section below.

This is only one life, we have not experienced if there is rebirth or not. So why to make this life just an ordinary one? And by extraordinary I don’t mean to have a luxurious life. Chasing that life can ruin your past, present, and future.

By extraordinary life, I mean to live it to the fullest. Be grateful for what you have, experience life. Just pay attention to what’s happening now. It’s wonderful.

If you lived in the moment, then I guarantee, there is nothing that will make you regret ever in life.
